Your next personal best starts with recovery.

You put a lot into your training, and your body feels it. Sports massage is registered massage therapy for active people, focused on the muscles your sport or workouts load most. It's timed around your schedule: lighter before an event, recovery-focused after, and regular sessions during a training block. And if a strain or overuse injury has set you back, we'll help you get back to doing what you love.

Who sports massage is for

You don't need to be a competitive athlete. If you train regularly and your body is feeling it, this is for you. For long-standing pain from desk work or physical jobs, see deep tissue massage.

  • Runners training for a 5K, half or full marathon
  • Lifters and gym-goers with tight hips, shoulders or back
  • Rec league players: hockey, soccer, basketball, volleyball
  • Cyclists, paddlers and swimmers with overuse tightness
  • Anyone returning from a strain, sprain or overuse injury
  • Recurring issues like plantar fasciitis, shin splints or tight IT bands

When to book: timing matters

The right kind of sports massage depends on where you are in your training. These are general guidelines; your RMT will tailor them to you and your event.

Before an event

Light and loosening

A few days before a race or game. Shorter, lighter work to loosen tight areas without leaving you sore. Avoid deep work right before competing.

After an event

Recovery-focused

Once the initial soreness eases, usually a day or more after. Gentle work to ease tightness and help you get back to training.

During training

Regular maintenance

Every few weeks during a training block to catch tightness before it becomes an injury and to keep your range of motion.

After an injury

Return to sport

Part of a plan to get you back safely, often alongside chiropractic care or shockwave therapy for tendon problems.

Tell us before your session if…

Deep pressure isn't right for everyone. Your RMT will adapt treatment or suggest a gentler option if any of these apply.

  • You take blood thinners or bruise easily
  • You have osteoporosis or a recent fracture
  • You've had recent surgery or a new injury
  • You have varicose veins or a history of blood clots
  • You are pregnant: see Prenatal Massage

Kyle is an amazing RMT. I've been to many different RMTs, and few are as attentive as he is. Between chronic pain and recurring injuries, I wouldn't be able to hit my fitness goals training for my half marathon, paddle sports, lifting while staying injury-free without him.

Visiting Kyle for RMT quite frequently. Really like the deep tissue massage as someone who engages in heavy workouts and suffers from plantar fasciitis. He's really able to relax and relieve pain Excellent treat for your recovery days.

I highly recommend Dr. Kevin Ho. As a fellow healthcare professional, I was extremely impressed by his professionalism, bedside manner, and genuine commitment to understanding the cause of my sciatica rather than simply treating the symptoms. He was incredibly thorough in his assessment and investigation, took the time to explain his findings, and made me feel confident that I was in excellent hands. Most importantly, it was clear that he genuinely cared about my recovery and getting me back on my feet. Thank you, Dr. Ho, for the exceptional care!

I had a great experience at BrightPath Health and Wellness with Dr. Kevin Ho. He is highly professional and knowledgeable, and he takes the time to clearly explain what’s happening in the body, which really helps build trust and understanding. The clinic itself is clean, well-maintained, and welcoming. I would definitely recommend his services to anyone looking for quality care.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Kevin Ho for about four years and can’t recommend him enough. He consistently goes above and beyond - not only providing effective adjustments but also showing helpful exercises and explaining how to support recovery between visits. Earlier this year I came to him with debilitating lower back pain, and the relief I felt starting from the very first session was incredible. After each visit I genuinely felt like a brand new person. He continues to support my recovery with thoughtful care. I also appreciate how thorough he is in coordinating treatment and sharing relevant information with my family doctor. Dr. Ho is knowledgeable, attentive, and truly invested in his patients’ long-term well-being.

I’ve always had a great experience at brightpath, so much so that I’ve referred about 3-4 friends to come here as well for their chiropractic or RMT needs. Dr. Kevin Ho is my go to chiropractor, he also recommends any stretches or movement that I can continue to do at home to remain pain free. Both Nicole and Kyle are great RMTs, and you’ll be both relaxed and pain free in no time. I also love the online booking system that allows me to book easily and also manages payments and reimbursements so I don’t have to do anything administratively from my end. Highly recommend this clinic to all.

I was referred to Dr Ho by a friend and I’ve been going to him for chiro appointments for almost 2 years now. I have been very satisfied with the treatments. Dr Ho is attentive and detail oriented, and his background in both western and eastern medicine makes the sessions informative and effective. I appreciate that he listens to my concerns and treats accordingly, and that while he advises treatments, he doesn’t push anything unnecessary. Will continue to go to him for chiro help.

Sports massage questions

How close to a race or game should I book?

For a lighter pre-event session, a few days before usually works best. Avoid deep work in the day or two before you compete, because it can leave you sore. Your RMT will help you plan around your event date.

Is sports massage the same as deep tissue?

They overlap, but the focus is different. Sports massage is organized around your activity and training schedule, and its pressure changes with timing. Deep tissue focuses on chronic tension from daily life.

Can sports massage prevent injuries?

No massage can guarantee that, but regular sessions can help you spot and manage tightness and imbalances early, before they turn into a problem that stops your training.

Can I come in with a current injury?

Yes. Tell us what happened when you book. Your RMT will assess it and adjust treatment, and may suggest seeing our chiropractor too if the injury needs it.

Do I need to be an athlete?

Not at all. If you exercise regularly and want help with recovery or keeping tightness under control, sports massage is a good fit.

Other massage types

Deep Tissue:

For chronic knots from desk work and daily life.

Relaxation & Swedish:

What could you achieve if your body felt its best?

Every goal you're chasing depends on muscles that can keep up. Investing in recovery is investing in your performance.
