Dr. Kevin Ho
Chiropractor & Clinic Director
Dr. Kevin Ho has always had a passion for people’s health and wellbeing. He chose to start his healthcare career as a Registered Nurse in Alberta. Eventually, an opportunity came to work at the Intensive Care Unit with the infamous Sickkids Hospital here in Toronto. However, after suffering from repetitive low back pain, Dr. Ho sought relief from a Chiropractor. Dr. Ho experienced a remarkable recovery from his injury and it led to Dr. Ho’s interest in the field of Chiropractic.
In 2006, Dr. Ho graduated from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and began his private practice in 2009 in midtown Toronto. Dr. Ho also had the privilege of joining the Canadian Centre for Integrative Medicine in 2006 working with well respected Chronic Pain Specialist Dr. Gordon Ko. This experience introduced Dr. Ho to the much broader world of chronic pain medicine with exposure into patients with Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue syndrome and Neuropathic conditions. From this experience, Dr. Ho saw the strength of a diverse healthcare team working together and its positive impact it had on patient’s health. This led to Dr. Ho’s decision to start Brightpath Health & Wellness and to build a integrative healthcare team in North York, helping patients with strategies to improve their quality of life.
Dr. Gayamali Karunaratna
Naturopathic Doctor & Birth Doula
Dr. Gayamali’s interest in medicine began at a young age when she would observe her Grandfather, who was a traditional Ayurvedic Doctor prepare herbal tinctures in his apothecary. In her later years while working at a medical clinic, she became cognizant of the fact that there was more to health than just the physical aspect, inspiring her on a journey in search of a healthcare model that addressed the integral mind-body connection. This prompted her to explore Naturopathic Medicine; whose guiding principles are founded on recognizing the body’s inherent ability to heal itself and identifying and treating the root cause of disease, which she found to fit her philosophy of health. Her passion to help those in need also led her to work as a Camp Counsellor with Autism Ontario Canada (AOK), which further solidified her desire to pursue a career in healthcare.
Dr. Gayamali is a board-certified Naturopathic Doctor who completed her medical training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM). Prior to becoming a Naturopathic Doctor, she obtained an Honours Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Toronto and continued on to pursue a Masters of Education degree at the University of Windsor.
Having obtained a Masters in Education, Dr. Gayamali’s goal is not only to treat, but to educate and empower individuals to achieve their optimal health goals, while promoting disease prevention. Her practice focuses on treating individuals with chronic lifestyle diseases including high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hormonal imbalances and mental and emotional conditions such as anxiety anddepression. Her clinical interests also include Women’s health and dermatology.
As a Naturopathic Birth Doula, Dr. Gayamali provides mothers-to- be with prenatal care and support before, during and after labour and delivery to ensure a positive birth experience. This includes providing nutritional counselling, acupuncture, botanical herbs, and physical medicine. She is also passionate about providing pre-conception care to women who are trying to conceive or facing challenges with conceiving.
Registered Massage Therapist
Being able to practice Massage Therapy changed Zoe’s life. Having to work in an office environment for 2 years (like many of her patients), she decided to take a leap of faith and pursue a career that would have a greater positive impact in people’s lives. She always enjoyed helping and connecting with people. Massage therapy offered the channel for her to connect with people on a personal level through therapeutic touch. The improvement and joy of her patients after each treatment is the reason why she’s dedicated to becoming a better therapist every day.
Zoe graduated from the College of Massage Therapy and Hydrotherapy (CCMH) and is currently in good standing with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). During her studies, she had the opportunity to train with Cindy McNeely’s Trimesters program and gained experience in treating perinatal and high risk pregnancy patients. From her experiences, she was able to provide a wide variety of treatments through massage, including but not limited to: musculoskeletal conditions, pregnancies, neuropathies, and of course, relaxation. Whatever reason you’re coming in for, her treatments are customized to your concerns.
Her approach to treatment aims to balance relaxation and mechanical effectiveness so you will feel well mentally and physically after each treatment. She received extensive training in body mechanics to treat in various degrees of pressure and can adapt to your body’s needs. Some of the techniques that you may experience in her treatment include: Swedish massage, fascia release, trigger points release, joint mobilization, proprioception techniques, and stretching.
After clinic hours, Zoe enjoys keeping herself busy and healthy by doing yoga, taking walks, and exploring new places (near and far!). As healthy as she strives to be, she is a big foodie and enjoys talking about food as much as eating it!
Desiree is a licenced Registered Acupuncturist (R.Ac) currently in good standing with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario (CTCMPAO). She completed her acupuncture training at Eight Branches Academy of Eastern Medicine, Toronto. Her practice is governed by the understanding that we each have a right and responsibility to ourselves to invest in our own health and well being, that the path to healing is never linear, but instead one that is constantly evolving based our unique experiences.
Desiree has a background in Human Resources and Training & Development. Her love for Traditional Chinese Medicine was born from a personal struggle with chronic stress, fatigue, and anxiety- a sad reality faced by many individuals today. After years of having varying degrees of success with conventional western medicine, she happened to stumble upon TCM. Amazed by the positive and often lasting effects of TCM and acupuncture she found herself inspired to learn more about this ancient medicine. Eventually, curiosity led to genuine interest, which grew into a yearning to be part of something bigger than herself.
Desiree takes a “big picture” approach to patient concerns. By keeping an open line of communication, she strives to demystify TCM by explaining and demonstrating how it, in conjunction with other holistic modalities, improve her patient’s quality of living. She diligently works with each patient to unfold past traumas and identify patterns that target the treatment of the root cause of the issue.
Desiree’s clinical interests include musculoskeletal pain management, emotional concerns (i.e. anxiety, depression, stress, PTSD and emotional trauma), insomnia and other sleep issues, general and chronic fatigue, fertility support, women’s health, digestive disorders, cosmetic acupuncture and more.
In her spare time Desiree enjoys spending quality time with her family, a cuddle with her dog and the company of good friends. She loves to travel but relishes the rich and diverse culture that can only be found in her hometown- Toronto.
