What Can I Expect during Chiropractic Treatment?
Chiropractic Treatments can involve a variety of techniques. Dr. Kevin Ho utilizes a combination of treatment methods selected based on your condition, your preferences and your health history. Your comfort is our priority, Dr. Ho is happy to accomodate to your needs and preferences. A treatment session could include some of the following techniques.
Chiropractic Adjustments: Traditional methods
Chiropractic Adjustments also known as Spinal Manipulation Therapy (SMT) is one of the most common therapies used by Chiropractors. It is a highly skilled and precise correction done by hand to the vertebrae of the spine or other joints in your arms and legs. The purpose of Chiropractic Adjustments is to restore proper movement and function to the body. The most common outcomes after receiving adjustments is less pain, more flexibility and ease of movement. Numerous clinical studies and research has shown that Spinal Manipulation Therapy, when combined with exercise, is effective in both new and chronic low back pain.
Chiropractic Adjustments with Activator®: A second option
Do you wish there was a more gentle alternative to traditional manual Chiropractic Adjustments? If so, the Activator® Method may be for you. The Activator® is a hand-held, spring-loaded instrument used to perform Chiropractic Adjustments. Just like traditional Chiropractic Adjustments, as described above, adjustments performed using the Activator® device can be applied to the spine and various joints in the body. The Activator® Technique was developed through extensive research since the 1960s and is used by Chiropractors in Canada, US, Asia and Europe. This technique is appropriate to assist patients who cannot or prefer not to receive traditional Chiropractic Adjustments done by hand. You can request free information material about the Activator Method by contacting our clinic at info@brightpathhealth.ca.
Soft Tissue Therapy
Soft tissue therapy is often performed as part of a regular Chiropractic Treatment session. This therapy may involve stretching and trigger point release. Soft tissue therapy is effective in relieving tight muscles and may be applied prior to performing Chiropractic adjustments if necessary. Soft tissue therapy is also effective for repetitive strain injuries like tendonitis, thoracic outlet syndrome, Sciatica and Rotator cuff injuries.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture could be applied as a stand-alone treatment or could be combined with traditional Chiropractic to treat many musculoskeletal conditions or injuries. Acupuncture can be effective in treating soft tissue conditions such as muscle strains, tendonitis, shin splints. Acupuncture is also highly effective in treating migraine headaches, neck pain, low back pain, sciatica, numbness and/or tingling.
