Relaxation & Swedish Massage in North York
When did you last take an hour just for yourself?
Stress doesn't just stay in your head. You carry it in your shoulders, your jaw and your sleep. Swedish massage uses long, flowing strokes with gentle to moderate pressure to calm your nervous system, ease everyday tension and help you rest. At Brightpath, relaxation and Swedish massage are one treatment, provided by a Registered Massage Therapist and covered by most extended health plans. If you've never had a massage, this is a gentle, welcoming place to start.

Who relaxation massage is for
This is for when stress, not a specific injury, is the main problem. If you have stubborn knots or pain that keeps coming back, deep tissue massage is a better fit.
- Stress, burnout or feeling constantly "on"
- Trouble falling or staying asleep
- Nurses, PSWs and shift workers coming off long shifts
- Parents and caregivers who need a real break
- Everyday tension in the neck, shoulders and back
- Anyone new to massage who wants a gentle start
- Regular monthly self-care
NEW TO MASSAGE?
Your first massage, step by step
Feeling a little unsure is normal. Here's exactly what happens, so there are no surprises.
1
A short conversation
Your RMT asks about your health, how you're feeling and what you'd like from the session. This is also when to mention any areas you'd rather they avoid.
2
Undress to your comfort level
Your RMT steps out while you get on the table under a sheet. Many people keep their underwear on; some keep more on. Either is fine.
3
Draped the whole time
Only the area being worked on is uncovered. You can ask for more or less pressure, a warmer room or a pause at any point.
4
Talk, or don't
Some people chat, others drift off to sleep. Both are completely normal. Afterwards, take a few minutes before heading out.

Nicole Scarisoreanu, RMT
Nicole believes healing is never just physical. Alongside nearly 20 years of clinical practice, she brings a personal practice of meditation, breathwork and yoga into her treatment room. Patients describe sessions that feel calm, unhurried and attentive to what their body needs that day.
Best for: stress, poor sleep, and a deeply calming, mindbody reset.

Kyle Ngo, RMT
Kyle's kinesiology background from York University means he understands where stress settles in the body, whether it's tight shoulders after a long week at the desk or stiffness from your workouts. His relaxation sessions are calm and restorative, with a little extra attention wherever you need it most, and he'll send you home with simple stretches to help the calm last. [Kyle to review]
Best for: stress that shows up as physical tension, and active people who need a recovery week.
Both are registered with the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). [Add registration numbers]

Relaxation and Swedish massage questions
What's the difference between Swedish and relaxation massage?
Swedish describes the technique: long, gliding strokes and gentle kneading. Relaxation describes the purpose. In practice, most relaxation massages use Swedish technique, so we offer them as one treatment.
Is relaxation massage covered by insurance?
Usually, yes. Coverage depends on the treatment being provided by a Registered Massage Therapist, not on the type of massage. Check your plan's massage limits and whether it needs a prescription.
I've never had a massage. Is this a good place to start?
Yes. It's the most gentle option, and your RMT will explain each step. You can stop or change anything at any time.
Is it okay if I fall asleep?
Completely. It's a sign your body is relaxing. Your RMT will gently let you know when the session is ending.
How often should I come?
Many patients book monthly for stress management. During a particularly stressful stretch, every two to three weeks can help.
Other massage types
Sports:
For training, events and getting back after injury.
Deep Tissue:
Firmer pressure for stubborn knots and recurring pain.
Prenatal:
Safe, supported massage during and after pregnancy.
What if this week, you came first?
One calm, unhurried hour can change how you sleep, how you feel and how you handle whatever comes next.
